Outdoor Recreation

...
Snowmobile riding generally is permissible along CMP’s transmission line corridors, but is limited when construction crews are preparing to work, or are working, on the lines.

Corridors, Construction, and Safety

Central Maine Power (CMP) transmission line corridors generally are open to the public for hunting and other recreational uses. However, there are situations where conditions are not appropriate or safe for public use and access is restricted.

Construction work limits recreational use. Safety is CMP’s priority. We want to keep you and our workers as safe as possible. Please be mindful of your surroundings if you are in these work areas.

Construction activities, beginning with matting and tree cutting, are underway through 2026 in our transmission line corridor from Winslow to Augusta.  Project team members may be in our corridors at any given time to assess project needs such as environmental and property surveys. Our workers will be wearing visible and identifiable clothing that includes high visibility vests or jackets, and white or orange hard hats. During construction, there will be noise, but it may not be constant. Even when there is no noise, our workers may be in the corridor.

Please be alert! Our project team members will be focused on the jobs they are doing and may not see you nearby. Avoid entering construction zones.

Recreation Clubs

CMP’s Community Relations Department regularly communicates with recreation clubs, including snowmobile, ATV, hunting, and others, to inform their members about construction work or other situations that may limit or restrict recreation in CMP’s corridors.

Activities

CMP is happy to see you enjoy these activities on our transmission line corridors. Please do not enter areas closed for construction or where expressly prohibited. For more detailed information on recreational uses, please visit CMP’s Recreational Uses page or contact Community Relations at [email protected].
