Trees and Vegetation

...
Tree work being performed near CMP lines.

As part of this project, Central Maine Power (CMP) is removing and trimming trees in our corridor along the entire route to make this line more resilient in the face of extreme weather.

In storms, trees can cause significant damage.

CMP will be clearing vegetation, removing trees, and trimming branches that are hanging into the corridor from trees on private properties. The work will occur in corridor areas where construction will take place, and the new poles will be installed.

CMP may need to speak with landowners regarding trees outside the easement that could pose a threat to the line.

Types of Trees to Be Removed

Here are the types of trees that pose a danger or threat to the transmission line:

  • Danger trees (trees with structural defects).
  • Hazard trees (trees that could endanger the line).
  • Trees that are jointly owned (on property line) where more than 1/3 of the canopy will be removed by trimming to the edge of the existing ROW.

Your Permission is Needed

After trees in the corridor have been cut or trimmed, you may notice stubs that could pose a danger or appear unsightly.

We'd like to remove the tree stubs or any identified danger trees that are remaining outside the corridor. If you identify danger trees on your property, we would like your permission to enter your property and cut them down.
