Poles

Central Maine Power (CMP) will be strengthening its grid by replacing the transmission line’s existing wooden structures with stronger, more storm-resilient weathered steel poles. The new poles will be taller than the existing structures. Wood poles will be used in most roadside locations to comply with Maine Department of Transportation regulations.

Once the new line is energized, the current line will be decommissioned, and the old structures will be removed.

The current energized transmission line will remain in operation during construction. No power outages are planned.

Pole Placements

In most cases poles will be installed between five and 15 feet to the east or west of the current transmission line in the corridor.

To view examples of the new pole placements in relation to the current placements please see the Interactive Project Map

Double Poles

In roadside locations along Church Hill Road there are telephone lines that are required to remain on the old poles until the utility responsible for those lines moves them to the new poles. This will result in old poles remaining after the new poles are installed. Once the telephone lines have been transferred to the new poles, the old poles will be removed.
